The PDF shows black or blank pages in Firefox

This is a Firefox display setting, not a problem with your file — the same PDF opens fine in Chrome, Edge, or Adobe Reader. To fix Firefox:

  1. Type about:config in Firefox's address bar and press Enter (accept the warning).
  2. Search for gfx.canvas.accelerated and double-click it to set it to false.
  3. If pages are still black, also set gfx.webrender.software to true.
  4. Reopen the PDF (a full restart is usually not needed).

Prefer the menu? Settings → General → Performance → untick “Use recommended performance settings,” then untick “Use hardware acceleration when available.”

A file won't combine

Password-protected PDFs can refuse to merge. Remove the password (open it and re-save to a new PDF), then try again. If one specific file fails, try the other mode (Private vs. Best compatibility) above.
